Who would have thought that a concert would save the world? Apparently Al Gore did. Live Earth is the biggest event to hit the world. However, I personally feel that it will not do much to save our planet.
Everything that the celebrities have tried to hawk, these aren’t brand new. They have been said time and time again by different people. No one has listened. How is it now going to be successful when Naomi Campbell says it?
I’m just going to be really clear on this point. I’m not against environmentalism; I just think that the event will be a dud.
First off, the amount of energy that will be used to power just one leg of the concert could probably power a few houses for a couple of years. Even if they were using fuel efficient lights, I doubt that the television stations are doing the same. What about the people who go to these concerts? I’m very sure they didn’t take a bus. And what about the artists? Private jets.
You have 150 artists, each taking a private jet. You end up increasing the amount of air pollution. This especially dangerous as most these greenhouse gases are released in the higher altitudes.
If the goal of Live Earth was to raise awareness, it will succeed. There will be a surge of people who become more environmentally conscious. But then it will pass. Like how they have to make Live Aid a yearly event. Maybe the amount of pollution that Live Earth creates can be evened out by the sudden rush of conservation. Then we’ll be right back to where we started.
But I will answer the call. I salute these artists for their intentions and Al Gore for his initiative. It’s just sad that Live Earth is the only thing being done in recent years.
Go Green people!!!
